We have been very busy here in Youghalarra NS since the Christmas holidays.
RDS Young Scientist.
On the 12th January 3rd to 6th class went to the Young Scientist in the RDS in Dublin. We went to shows about science and technology and saw lots of different experiments. On the way back we were fortunate enough to call into Junction 14 for a bite to eat. It was a super day.
On a very wet and windy day on February 2nd, our Halla was full with chat and laughter, as we welcomed our grandparents into our wonderful school. Fr O’Brien started off the ceremony with a prayer service and our 6th class read prayers of the faithful. After the prayer service our 6th class sang ” Heal the World” (which we will be singing on March 4th for the Peace Proms) to the delight of all the grandparents. 6th class, with the help of the teachers, went around serving tea and biscuits to the grandparents. As the children arrived out to greet their grandparents there was joy and excitement in the room. Even though it was wet and windy outside the Halla was full of sunshine.
Our practice is well and thoroughly underway for our concert in UL arena on Saturday March 4th at 8pm. We went to UL arena on 7th of February for our rehearsal. We were all in high spirits singing and chatting to our hearts content. Our conductor Greg Beardsell showed us all the positions and focuses that we need for the show. We had great fun singing and dancing with other schools and we can’t wait for the show.
We took part in the nationwide initiative 10 @10. Everyone from junior infants to 6th class took to the courts everyday for ten minutes. Some of the following are activities we completed; running, squatting, jumping jacks, strides and lunges. Our favourite by far were the burpees. Our picture even got photo of the week on the Guardian. Well done to all the children, their enthusiasm was top notch.
Our video shows us working on our squats https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSfhnzUAnyU
4th, 5th and 6th class boys and girls took part in the Nenagh indoor athletic competition on Wednesday 15th of February. The children can be very proud of themselves coming away with 11 medals in total. Jodie came third in the 60m sprint and long jump, Aidan won gold in the 500m long distance race, our 6th class girls relay team won gold and 6th class boys relay team won silver. All children did themselves and the school very proud showing perseverance and positive attitude.
